International regulations for protecting ships and harbours from terrorist attacks (the ISPS code) have existed since 1 July 2004.

Only a few security firms in Denmark have been granted approval by Danish authorities to provide this protection.  

All guards assigned to perform harbour protection have received specialized training and meet the requirements concerning special approval and clearing from the Danish coastal authorities.
